The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Monday was a poor 53-130-117 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell another 10 points to 567. Niocorp Developments Ltd. (NB) rose 16 cents to $1.21 on 1.12 million shares on word it will combine with GX Acquisition Corp. II to aid its financing of the Elk Creek niobium project in Nebraska.

De Beers Canada's 2019 closure of its Victor diamond mine in the swampy lowlands west of James Bay along the Attawapiskat River dealt a blow to several earlier-stage projects in the area, explorers that had been hoping to piggyback off the mine's infrastructure to complete further work. One of those plays, the James Bay Lowlands project, is still dutifully touted by Richard Williams's Waseco Resources Inc. (WRI), which gained one cent to 2.5 cents on 100,000 shares Friday.

Each passing quarter for the past decade, Mr. Williams, president and chief executive officer, passively cheers that "it is anticipated that there will be further investment if the company takes on an added role during any new joint exploration and development program." Probably so, although it all but certain that Mr. Williams and his crew would be horrified if the project operator, KWG Resources Inc. (KWG) were to present Waseco with a cash call, much less an invitation to step up into a larger role.
