The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a weak 69-120-121 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose six points to 609.Ewan Mason's Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) dipped one-half cent to 10.5 cents on 458,000 shares. The company remains mired in a news brownout as Rio Tinto, its now reluctant majority co-venturer at the FalCon diamond project in Saskatchewan, is looking to fade to black. And so, FalCon sits in mothballs -- although Star is doing its best to pry it free.

Jeff Poloni's K9 Gold Corp. (KNC) jumped 1.5 cents to 8.5 cents on 4.92 million shares after a 1.5-cent gain to seven cents on 2.790 million shares Wednesday. The company is ramping up exploration -- or at least its promotion -- of its James Bay lithium property in Northern Quebec. As for the exploration, Mr. Poloni, chief executive officer, says that his immediate exploration plans consist of geophysical surveying that will provide the company with "a solid technical base to develop an expected extensive summer field program."
