The Travelers Companies, Inc.(NYSE: TRV) today released its wedding insurance claims data for 2025, offering a closer look at the unexpected events that can derail even the most carefully planned celebrations. The data highlights the top wedding vulnerabilities – including vendor failures and extreme weather – and underscores the importance of having a financial safety net in place.

For the fifth consecutive year, vendor-related issues (55%) were the leading cause of paid wedding insurance claims in 2025. Others included:

• Illness or injury (16%).
• Extreme weather (10%).
• Accidental damage or injury (6%).
• Military deployment (3%).

To help avoid wedding-day disruptions, Travelers recommends:

• Vetting vendors. Research reviews and get referrals before placing any deposits.
• Planning for weather disruptions. Severe and unpredictable weather conditions can affect travel and venues. It is essential to secure a wedding insurance policy before any named storm.
• Accounting for liability. Careful planning doesn’t eliminate the risk of accidental damage or injury. The right policy can account for that.
• Buying insurance coverage early. Many scenarios are only covered if a policy is secured well in advance. It’s best to lock in a special events policy as soon as a deposit is placed.
