The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday edition that money manager Stan Wong continues to buy Apple. The Globe's Brenda Bouw quotes Mr. Wong, portfolio manager and senior wealth adviser with the Stan Wong Group at Scotia Wealth Management in Toronto, who oversees about $750-million in assets, saying Apple is a stock he has held for about 18 months "and have been adding to a little more aggressively in the past couple of months." Mr. Wong adds: "Apple's greatest competitive advantage isn't the iPhone, but its ecosystem that almost forces customers to keep using its products and services. It's difficult to replicate. Apple has more than 2.5 billion active devices worldwide, an enormous base that creates opportunities to generate revenue from services, subscriptions, applications and future product upgrades continually. The new, premium-priced iPhone Duo, starting at $1,999 U.S., could be highly accretive to Apple's margins. Another factor that sets Apple apart from many other technology companies is its relatively low capex compared with hyperscalers such as Microsoft, Meta Platforms and Alphabet." Over all, Mr. Wong is "constructively optimistic" on equities in the short term, citing strong corporate earnings growth.
