Mr. Jim Cambon reports
ANORTECH CONFIRMS DEEP-WATER PORT SITE AT GRONNE BJERG ANORTHOSITE PROJECT, GREENLAND
Anortech Inc. has completed a bathymetric survey at its Gronne Bjerg anorthosite project in Greenland. The survey confirms that the company's preferred location for a deepwater port is viable.
Survey highlights
- A minimum depth of 15 metres at low tide was measured within 20 metres of the shoreline at the preferred port location;
- This depth exceeds the approximate 12- to 14-metre draft typically required by Panamax-class bulk carriers (up to 80,000 deadweight tonnage);
- The survey covered 1.98 kilometres of shoreline out to a depth of 200 metres;
- The anorthosite body extends directly to the shoreline adjacent to the proposed port site.
Survey details
The survey was conducted over five days in September, 2026, by Asiaq Greenland Survey. Asiaq is wholly owned by the government of Greenland and has carried out survey work throughout Greenland for more than 60 years. The program covered a broad area of the coastline adjacent to the project so the company could assess several potential port sites. The results confirm that the site Anortech had identified as its preferred location has water depths suitable for large bulk carriers.
Management commentary
Jim Cambon, president of Anortech, commented: "The success of resource projects, particularly in the Arctic, depends heavily on logistics. Having a deepwater port directly next to the resource is a major advantage in keeping both infrastructure and operating costs low. The survey results demonstrate favourable water depths close to shore with the anorthosite body running right to the shoreline. These results support our project model of loading large-tonnage bulk carriers for the supply of feed material for smelter-grade alumina and high-purity alumina plants in North America and Europe utilizing our proprietary technology."
Next steps
The data from this survey will be incorporated into the project's terms of reference which are required together with environmental baseline studies and a resource model in order to submit an application for an exploitation licence.
