The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that BlackBerry is on a tear. The Globe's Sean Silcoff writes that on Thursday, the Waterloo, Ont., company's shares shot up 19.95 per cent in New York Stock after it reported sharply better-than-expected results in all three of its business lines, increased its financial forecast for the year and updated its reviving investor fanbase on a story it has been telling for months: that the one-time smart-phone leader has cleaned up the messes of the past, is consistently generating strong results -- and is set to significantly increase its revenue and earnings power in the coming years. BlackBerry is establishing itself as a software leader in automotive and secure communications. It's also a player in artificial intelligence and partnering with leading chipmakers including Nvidia. Stifel analyst Suthan Sukumar initiated coverage on BlackBerry this week (now $10.34 (U.S.) with a buy rating and $12 (U.S.) stock target. "The market is coming to the realization that the BlackBerry of today is a very different beast than what they thought they knew," he said. "There is a huge market opening up and BlackBerry is in an enviable competitive and dominant position to capture that."
