The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that National Bank Financial analyst Cameron Doerksen says Canadian National Railway is likely to see solid volume growth in its third quarter, with new cross-border tariffs posing a small challenge, while U.S. trade policy benefits other volumes. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Doerksen continues to rate CN "sector perform." He gave his share target a $2 trim to $190. Analysts on average target the shares at $187.81. Mr. Doerksen says in a note: "We remain broadly positive on the outlook for CN with noteworthy long-term growth drivers including NGL exports from Prince Rupert, other energy-related growth in Western Canada, especially if multiple major proposed investments move forward, and the potential for increased international imports and exports if Canada diversifies its trade relationships. Through its recent agreements with Union Pacific, CN has also largely mitigated the potential negative competitive impact from the proposed UNP-NS merger while also improving its access to Mexico. We nevertheless remain wary of U.S.-Canada trade-related risks as well as certain volumes to which CN is exposed that are sensitive to inflation and higher interest rates."
