Cymat Technologies to hold investor webcast on Nov. 4

2026-11-02 19:04 ET - News Release

Mr. Michael Liik reports

CYMAT ANNOUNCES INVESTOR WEBCAST TO FURTHER DISCUSS JV FOR SCANDIUM ALUMINUM MASTER ALLOY PRODUCTION

Cymat Technologies Ltd. will hold an investor webcast on Nov. 4, 2026, at 2 p.m. EST, to further elaborate on its recently announced memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KAP Minerals Inc. to advance a proposed joint venture (JV) for the production and commercialization of scandium-aluminum (Sc-Al) at Cymat's Mississauga facility.

Michael Liik, chief executive officer and chairman of Cymat, stated: "This proposed JV to produce Sc-Al master alloy will operate in tandem with our previously announced initiative to produce metal matrix composites (MMC) for the commercial customers of Rio Tinto. During the upcoming webcast, I will discuss the rationale for the new Sc-Al initiative, as well as the synergies inherent in our company's production of Sc-Al and MMC. I believe that the coupling of these two initiatives will be transformative for Cymat."

Highlights of the webcast include:

  • Importance of scandium in aluminum: The addition of very small quantities of scandium to aluminum substantially increases the strength of the aluminum alloy, improves fatigue and corrosion resistance and enhances weldability, all without adding weight. Scandium has been identified by Canada and other international governments as a critical mineral. The current supply of scandium from Western Allie sources is extremely limited.
  • KAP mine: The scandium will be recovered from a secondary refining process applied to surface tailings at a Kapuskasing, Ont., phosphate mine to be rehabilitated by KAP. All transportation, energy and building infrastructure is already in place for the refining facility. Accessibility of the mineral source combined with existing infrastructure is expected to result in a low-cost production process for the scandium oxide.
  • Cymat Sc-Al master alloy: Building upon the MMC production line, Cymat will employ a proprietary flux-free alloying method to produce a high-purity Sc-Al master alloy in commercial quantities. The production will involve low-carbon process that avoids the use of noxious chemicals associated with methods that employ fluxes. The Sc-Al alloying line is being designed to scale up in tandem with the increase in scandium supply and market demand for Sc-Al alloy. The JV will sell the resulting Sc-Al alloy to allied atmospheric and space-focused aerospace industries, defence industries and other advance manufacturing entities.
  • Interest of Canadian government: Provincial and federal government officials participated in the JV MOU signing at Cymat's Mississauga office last week. The JV initiative has particular resonance for the Canadian government as it involves a Canadian-sourced critical mineral, being further processed domestically into an advanced material with qualities that make it desirable for use by aerospace, defence and advanced manufacturing markets, establishing an integrated Canadian supply chain. Furthermore, the JV has the potential to reach commercial production levels within the current election cycle. Leveraging this government interest into a source of non-dilutive financing is a key objective for both Cymat and KAP.
  • Comparable investment opportunities: It is challenging to quantify the economic potential for the JV as the global supply of scandium is severely constrained and development of commercial uses for Sc-Al are in their infancy. With a market capitalization in the $80-million range, Scandium Canada has the potential to be another future source for scandium and related alloys to Western economies. Scandium Canada is exploring the feasibility of a hard-rock mining site in Northern Quebec as a potential scandium source. However, assuming the feasibility study yields satisfactory results, production from this new mine would not commence prior to 2031. (source: Scandium Canada corporate presentation -- September, 2026). The KAP mine, on the other hand, has surface material that is ready now for the extraction and refining process.

During the webcast, Mr. Liik will further elaborate upon the potential that this JV brings for Cymat stakeholders, as well as provide an update on Cymat's MMC initiative and aluminum foam business. The webcast will be held via Zoom meetings on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, at 2 p.m. EST. Attendees may e-mail their questions in advance to info@investor3.ca.

Registration will be required to access the meeting.

About Cymat Technologies Ltd.

Cymat Technologies holds the global rights, through patents and established know-how, to manufacture and sell stabilized aluminum foam (SAF), a unique, ultralight, cellular metallic material. The proprietary production process entails the injection of gases through a molten bath of alloyed aluminum infused with ceramic particles. The result is an advanced, lightweight, recyclable material that exhibits unique characteristics, including customizable density and dimensions; mechanical energy absorption; thermal and acoustic insulation; and time, temperature and strain-rate insensitivity. A key benefit of this continuous foam production process is its scalability and resultant low cost of production. SAF is used in such industries as architectural design, military and automotive. Cymat markets its architectural SAF under the Alusion brand and its automotive and military SAF under the SmartMetal brand.

About KAP Minerals Inc.

KAP Minerals is a Canadian critical minerals development company advancing the Kapuskasing project in Northern Ontario. The company is focused on recovering phosphate, rare earth elements, scandium and other strategic materials from previously mined material and developing downstream processing opportunities for Canadian and allied markets.
