The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday edition that Enbridge is investing $4-billion to expand its pipeline system for natural gas in British Columbia, following federal approval. The Globe's Brent Jang writes that the Sunrise expansion will boost capacity by 17 per cent in the T-South system, benefiting southern B.C. and the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Enbridge chief executive officer Greg Ebel said Friday, "The multibillion-dollar Sunrise expansion program is a shovel-ready, critical natural gas infrastructure project that supports the advancement of Canada's energy superpower ambitions." Westcoast Energy Limited Partnership, an affiliate of Calgary-based Enbridge, operates the B.C. transmission network. Improvements to the pipeline and infrastructure aim to support various customers, particularly by replacing natural gas for Woodfibre LNG. This project, under construction near Squamish, B.C., is expected to export liquefied natural gas to Asia by late 2027. Enbridge acquired a 30-per-cent stake in Woodfibre in 2022, while the remaining 70 per cent is held by Pacific Energy Corp. The latter is part of privately owned, Singapore-based RGE Pte. Ltd., which is controlled by Indonesian businessman Sukanto Tanoto.
