The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Oct. 22, edition that in Canada's real estate sector National Bank's Matt Kornack and Giuliano Thornhill think 2026 has "thrown bit of everything at us" with conditions notabley deteriorating heading into third quarter earnings season. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Kornack and Mr. Thornhill say the macro environment has been more challenging of late with energy shocks translating into higher inflation/rising bond yields. The National Bank stockpickers have reaffirmed their "outperform" call on Extendicare. They gave their share target a $5 trim to $40. Analysts on average target the shares at $40.67. Mr. Kornarck and Mr. Thornhill say in a note: "Extendicare is our preferred healthcare idea. ... We continue to like Extendicare due to a number of the supportive policy and funding announcements we have identified before. Despite worries the ALC driver is fading, we continue to expect the high growth to persist as the most recent ALC open cases sat at 3,700 which compares to Fall 2024 at over 5,000. The remaining ALC backlog, together with seasonal hospital-capacity pressure in Q4/Q1, should sustain demand for home-care discharges and above-average HHC volume growth."
