The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Aug. 27, edition that in an interview with The Glenn Beck Program, President Donald Trump repeated his view that Canada does not have anything that the United States needs. The Globe's Bill Curry writes that Mr. Trump said: "I mean, there are a couple of things that would make it a little inconvenient, but we can get them elsewhere. And it's time to teach Canada you can't do this any more." Trade negotiations fell apart late Friday. The President approved 50-per-cent tariffs on about $28-billion worth of Canadian goods. Ottawa responded by slapping dollar-for-dollar tariffs. White House adviser Peter Navarro, who was convicted on two counts of criminal contempt of Congress in 2023 for refusing to comply with subpoenas from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack, warned on Wednesday that the deal Canada will ultimately strike with the U.S. will be worse than what was offered last week. Mr. Navarro said: "It just is not going to end well for Canada, and I predict that the deal you got, that you turned your nose up, you're never going to get that deal again. Whatever you get is going to be less than that."
