The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that Robinhood Markets has expanded its Canadian work force to more than 200 employees and moved into a new Toronto office with room for twice that number. The Globe's Meera Raman writes that the office, which opened in August, is now Robinhood's third-largest globally by head count and one of its fastest growing, according to Robinhood Canada's Chris Pollock. The office currently has more than 20 job openings listed. Robinhood first established its Canadian headquarters in Toronto in 2024. The company is preparing to expand its Canadian offering beyond cryptocurrency. The firm would not say which product will come next but said Robinhood's next phase will focus on more trading and investment products. The hiring push offers an early look at Robinhood's ambitions in Canada after its $250-million acquisition of Canadian crypto company WonderFi closed in June. The deal gave Robinhood an immediate regulatory foothold in the Canadian market and access to more than 300,000 funded WonderFi customers at the time it was announced. Robinhood's arrival also adds another competitor to a Canadian self-directed investing market that includes homegrown firms Questrade and Wealthsimple.
