Globe says Lin bets on Lithium America, Lithium Africa

The Globe and Mail reports in its MondaY edition that lithium has seen a dramatic price rebound after a three-year bear market. The Globe's guest columnist Shirley Won writes that Lithium's investment appeal has broadened from electric vehicle batteries to energy storage and government stockpiling of strategic metals. Purpose Investments' Jeremy Lin is bullish on lithium in the short- and longer-term, and began investing in a couple of lithium stocks in March. He says higher gas prices caused by the Iran war are a short-term catalyst boosting lithium demand for EVs in Europe and Asia. Battery-grade lithium carbonate is trading around $21,400 a tonne after pulling back recently from a high of $29,204 in May (all figures U.S.). Lithium hit a record high of around $84,525 a tonne in 2022 before plunging sharply to a low of $8,260 a tonne last August because of a massive oversupply. Mr. Lin's fund owns Lithium Argentina for its low-cost brine projects, free cash flow, aggressive growth strategy and potential as a takeover target. Lithium Africa is an early-stage miner consolidating undeveloped mining assets in Africa, he says. Chinese firms, he notes, have a strong foothold there to feed their EV supply chain.
