The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, June 20, edition that former United States secretary of homeland security Kristi Noem has been appointed as an adviser to Novared Mining, a Vancouver-based copper and gold exploration company. The Globe's Niall McGee writes that Novared last week said Ms. Noem will support the company in its efforts to acquire and advance critical mineral exploration opportunities. Novared generates no revenue and is valued at about $76-million. It trades on the Canadian Securities Exchange. It went public in 2023. Novared said Ms. Noem's experience as a senior government official and governor of South Dakota provides her with valuable skills in government affairs, strategic planning, regulatory issues and stakeholder engagement. Ms. Noem says she is looking forward to supporting the company. Prior to joining Novared, Ms. Noem doesn't appear to have had any experience in the mining industry Ms. Noem is the third high-profile hiring out of the U.S. for Novared in the past few months. The company recruited retired U.S. Army Colonel Mark Calabrese as an adviser, as well as retired U.S. Navy commander Phil Ehr to its advisory board. As of January, Novared was holding only $65,689 in cash.
