The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that Donald Trump lies like Joseph Goebbels, viciously insults those he dislikes and shows little regard for basic human rights. Globe columnist Gordon Pape writes that for someone who thinks he deserves to win the Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S. President has ordered the bombing of Iran's nuclear sites, staged strikes on the Houthis in Yemen and the Islamic State in Nigeria, and most recently captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. At home, his tariff policies are pushing consumer prices higher, health insurance costs are rising and his thuggish deportation policies are spawning unease in migrant communities that threaten to erode his voting base. That's a nasty résumé. But guess what -- Wall Street could not care less. All the major U.S. indexes posted strong gains in 2025, led by tech-heavy Nasdaq. Alphabet gained 66 per cent and Nvidia added 36 per cent. One thing we do know about Mr. Trump is that he pays close attention to the indexes and acts quickly if he sees a sharp downturn. The takeaway here is: Do not underestimate Mr. Trump's obsession with the markets or his willingness to implement policy changes that will push share prices higher.
