The National Post reports in its Saturday, May 2, edition that President Donald Trump is "not satisfied" with Iran's latest proposal to end the war, rejecting it soon after it was delivered to mediators in Pakistan on Thursday night. An Associated Press dispatch to the Post reports that Mr. Trump on Friday said, "They want to make a deal, I'm not satisfied with it, so we'll see what happens." The shaky ceasefire is holding, despite mutual accusations of violations. Mr. Trump did not specify the latest proposal's shortcomings. He said, "They're asking for things I can't agree to." Negotiations have continued by phone after Mr. Trump canceled his envoys' trip to Pakistan, expressing frustration with Iran's fractured leadership. He said: "It's a very disjointed leadership. They all want to make a deal, but they're all messed up." The ceasefire has halted fighting in Iran, but a standoff between the U.S. and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz continues, affecting global oil and gas trade. A U.S. Navy blockade is preventing Iranian tankers from leaving, straining both Iran's economy and the world economy. Mr. Trump proposed a plan last week to reopen the key route for U.S. Gulf allies to export their oil and gas.
