Ventum Financial Corp.'s former president, Jean-Paul Bachellerie, has filed a lawsuit against the firm in the Supreme Court of British Columbia for wrongful dismissal. Mr. Bachellerie, 59, claims that Ventum fired him from his $400,000-per-year job for no reason after 29 years of employment. He says that the company has since been trying to invent a reason for his dismissal, and that his severance entitlement amounts to at least $3.5-million.
The allegations are contained in a notice of claim that Mr. Bachellerie filed at the Vancouver courthouse on Friday, Jan. 17. The case arises from Mr. Bachellerie's recent dismissal from Ventum, which occurred on Oct. 15, 2024. According to the suit, the firing came with no notice and came with Mr. Bachellerie having never received a negative performance review. He says that he had "loyally and faithfully" carried out his duties.
When he was fired, Mr. Bachellerie was earning $400,000 per year plus amounts linked to Ventum's revenue and earnings, the suit states. He was also entitled to 10 weeks of paid vacation annually and a package of insurance and health benefits, according to the suit. On top of that, he was to receive bonuses that included a "minimum total guaranteed allocation" of $570,000, according to the suit.
