Ventum Financial Corp., responding to a wrongful dismissal lawsuit from its former president, Jean-Paul Bachellerie, says that it fired Mr. Bachellerie after he was insolent with a superior, calling him a "passive aggressive fool" and a "bullshitter," among other things, in communications with employees. Mr. Bachellerie also shared confidential information with third parties, Ventum claims. The firm says that his conduct "irreparably fractured" the employment relationship.
The statements from Ventum come in response to a lawsuit that Mr. Bachellerie filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on Jan. 17, 2025. He complained that Ventum fired him from his $400,000-per-year position for no reason after he had "loyally and faithfully" carried out his duties. According to the suit, Ventum was attempting to avoid his severance entitlement, which he calculated to be at least $3.5-million.
For its part, Ventum claims that it had plenty of reason to fire Mr. Bachellerie. In a response filed on Feb. 10, 2025, the company says that he committed serious misconduct, "including the use of disrespectful, disparaging,
or derogatory descriptions of other employees or persons connected
with Ventum." His actions violated Mr. Bachellerie's duty to "refrain from engaging in insubordinate acts or language," the response states.
