The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was an upbeat 78-57-175 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell one point to 616. Many of Howe Street's once booming assortment of junior diamond explorers have drifted off to new lives as explorers for specialty or critical minerals -- or better yet, as gold hunters. Nevertheless, a tenacious few have kept at least a nominal presence in the diamond sector. One, Arctic Star Exploration Corp. (ADD), lost one-half cent to 1.5 cents on 302,000 shares today.

Tom Drivas's Appia Rare Earths & Uranium Corp. (API) rose one cent to 11 cents on 542,000 shares Wednesday on the heels of what it cheered as exciting new assays from the SW Extension zone at its PCH project in Brazil. The new assays included a 147.7-metre surface-based interval with 1.69 per cent total rare earth oxides (TREO), 0.18 per cent niobium oxide and 3.26 per cent potash. It was not alone: A second hole managed 1.14 per cent TREO, 0.12 per cent niobium oxide and 2.76 per cent potash over a 150-metre surface-based interval, while a third hole had slightly lower grades over a comparable run.
