The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a mediocre 64-81-165 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose five points to 702. Dermot Desmond and Mark Wall's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) is keeping its nostrils above water, but it sits nearly submerged just above its five-cent low, ending today unchanged at 6.5 cents on 59,000 shares. Its Gahcho Kue mine is running well, but it needs higher rough diamond prices to make ends meet.
Alex Wylie's Volt Lithium Corp. (VLT) gained 2.5 cents to 26 cents on 376,000 shares. It is difficult to confuse Volt Lithium with one of the many companies on Howe Street changing names as they move to the high-flying gold sector, even without perusing the company's end-of-release boilerplate where it describes itself as a "lithium development and technology company." Nevertheless, Volt Lithium gushed breathlessly today that it will seek shareholder approval to change its name.
