The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a positive 72-63-175 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell six points to 767. Jason Jessup's Magna Mining Inc. (NICU) lost five cents to $1.73 on 769,000 shares Tuesday on word that it has drilled a near-surface zone of mineralization in the Levack mine area of its Sudbury-district nickel, copper and platinum group elements projects in Northeastern Ontario. The headline hit, which came from the No. 1 zone at Levack, produced a 28-metre intercept grading 2.3 per cent nickel, 0.73 per cent copper, 0.07 per cent cobalt and about 0.34 gram of precious metals per tonne.
A second hole, also in the No. 1 area, made the highlight reel as well. It returned a 15.48-metre intercept that averaged 2.38 per cent nickel, 0.83 per cent copper, 0.09 per cent cobalt and 0.28 gram of precious metals per tonne. (Magna touts its new intercepts as occurring near surface, but the company is using the promoter's version of near -- both hits having topped out at vertical depths of at least 135 metres. The next time you are on the 40th floor of a high-rise, lean out a window and have a look downward -- your perception of "near-surface" might change.)
