The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was a ho-hum 80-94-136 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell eight points to 939. Pat Ryan's Ucore Rare Metals Inc. (UCU) jumped 21 cents to $7.44 on 725,000 shares in silence today. The last news came a month ago, when the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Vacuumschmelze GmbH & Co. -- it translates to "vacuum melting," if that helps -- and eVAC Magnetics LLC to develop a collaborative supply agreement for high-purity rare earth oxides.
Douglas Flett and Frank Smeenk's Canadian Chrome Co. Inc. (CACR) lost one-half cent to one cent on 1.92 million shares. The company has a high daily volume and a shoestring share price in part because decades of exploration enthusiasm have left it with nearly 1.4 billion shares outstanding. Yes, a hefty consolidation might be in order, but shareholders summarily rejected that notion when the company proposed one in 2012.
