The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score on Monday was a mediocre 88-92-130 as the TSX Venture Exchange added six points to 994. Frank Smeenk's Canadian Chrome Co. Inc. (CACR) closed unchanged at one-half cent on 5.24 million shares. Yes, that is a lowly price -- as low as they go -- but remember that KWG has not consolidated its stock for nearly a quarter century, and the last time it completed a rollback it was just a 1-for-2 consolidation. Oh, the company did try again 13 years ago, but shareholders failed to support the plan. And so, with Canadian Chrome now seeking $8.4-million, it must offer 1.4 billion new shares at 0.6 cent apiece, which would boost the tally to 4.7 billion shares.

The new cash, says Mr. Smeenk, president and chief executive officer, will be used to -- whip out your pocket lawyerese-to-layman dictionary -- "finance the company's business focused on the acquisition of interests in, and the exploration, evaluation and development of, large-scale mineral deposits of chromite and other base metals and minerals, including, without limitation, financing the company's overhead and operating expenses, and the costs of this private placement."
