The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score was a ho-hum 82-87-141 on Wednesday as the TSX Venture Exchange fell five points to 896. First Canadian Graphite Inc. (FCI) jumped 4.5 cents to 46 cents on 781,000 shares. The company has been silent since it touted progress at its Lac Gueret South graphite project in Quebec back in mid-August. Progress has been so snail-like, its resource of 1.76 million tonnes indicated at 17 per cent graphite and 1.53 million tonnes inferred at 16.4 per cent has slumped into historical status.
Greg Reimer's Surge Battery Metals Inc. (NILI) fell four cents to 81 cents on 3.04 million shares. The company applauded that it has produced a 99.95-per-cent-pure lithium carbonate from clays taken from its Nevada North lithium project in northeastern Nevada. It did so in a two-stage process, first by using beneficiation, sulfuric acid leaching, solution purification and carbonate precipitation, as part of its metallurgical program in support of a coming prefeasibility study. Some of that material was then refined to a battery-grade product, achieving the ballyhooed purity.
