The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a weak 74-95-151 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell 11 points to 913. Christian Kargl-Simard's Blue Moon Metals Inc. (MOON) was back in the news Wednesday with word that it is acquiring the Turner copper and gold project, a volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) system deposit in southern Oregon. The deposit type and the associated metals are considered similar to that at the company's Blue Moon mine in east-central California.
Turner comes with a historical resource estimate, now a not-so-sweet 16 years old. The calculation listed 2.45 million tonnes indicated at 1.25 per cent copper, 2.65 per cent zinc and 0.05 per cent cobalt, plus 2.79 grams of gold and 9.64 grams of silver per tonne. Another 2.08 million tonnes were inferred at comparable grades. That calculation was based on about 6,000 metres of drilling completed between 1957 and 1989, so there is plenty of room for new drilling to yield added encouragement.
