New York spot gold fell $18.60 to $2,026.70 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 4.81 points to 556.15 while the TSX gold index dipped 0.17 point to 275.44. Most Canadian-listed gold miners moved lower with bullion today. Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG), among those more energetic in retreat, fell 19 cents to $6.35 on 173,000 shares. Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) advanced today, adding 18 cents to $16.18 on 335,000 shares. Neither company had news today.
Anthony Moreau's American Eagle Gold Corp. (AE) had a news-driven surge. It rose 12 cents to 39.5 cents on 11.14 million shares -- and was as high as 51 cents -- on word of a long, rich hit at its NAK project in northwestern British Columbia. A 771-metre interval graded 0.28 gram of gold and 0.96 gram of silver per tonne plus 0.25 per cent copper and 207 parts per million molybdenum. A 302-metre midsection had the best assays, averaging 0.53 gram of gold and 1.27 grams of silver per tonne plus 0.4 per cent copper and 431 ppm molybdenum.
