New York spot gold rose $1.20 to $2,028.10 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 1.73 points to 554.42 while the TSX gold index dropped 4.42 points to 271.02. Most Canadian-listed gold miners moved lower today. Uncustomarily quiet Newmont Corp. (NGT) fell $1.96 to $51.77 on 407,000 shares. Kinross Gold Corp. (K), down eight cents to $7.51 on 5.46 million shares, has also been quiet. Osisko Gold Royalties Ltd. (OR), which is predicting a strong 2023 based on preliminary data, rose 18 cents to $18.48 on 246,000 shares.
Stephen Stewart's QC Copper and Gold Inc. (QCCU) rose one cent to 17 cents on 3.71 million shares on word of an update resource estimate for its Opemiska project in the Chapais-Chibougamau district of northwestern Quebec. The company now lists 97.5 million tonnes measured and indicated at 0.27 gram of gold and 1.76 grams of silver per tonne plus 0.81 per cent copper, with another 11 million tonnes inferred at lesser grades. In all, QC now lists 915,000 ounces of gold, 6.4 million ounces of silver and 1.87 million pounds of copper.
