New York spot gold rose $12.20 to $2,004.10 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 4.26 points to 552.49 while the TSX gold index jumped 6.11 points to 250.35. Most Canadian gold miners gained altitude today. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) added 15 cents to $6.91 on 7.41 million shares following word late yesterday that it had earned $415-million (U.S.) in 2023 and has declared an unchanged three-U.S.-cent quarterly dividend. Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG), on the other hand, fell eight cents to $7.20 on 289,000 shares despite being silent for the past week.
Jon Gilligan's Liberty Gold Corp. (LGD) fell one-half cent to 23 cents on 3.29 million shares on word of an updated resource estimate for its Black Pine oxide gold project in southeastern Idaho. The company lists 203.8 million tonnes indicated averaging 0.49 gram of gold per tonne across seven zones, with another 24.1 million tonnes inferred at 0.42 gram per tonne. In all, Black Pine is now credited with 3.53 million ounces of gold. The bulk of the ounces -- about 1.7 million of them -- sit in the Discovery zone, with most of the rest -- 1.2 million ounces -- in the Rangefront zone.
