New York spot gold rose $8.60 to $2,042.60 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 5.52 points to 560.11 while the TSX gold index added 5.52 points to 245.63. Most Canadian gold miners gained altitude today. Newmont Corp. (NGT), a $109 stock in the spring of 2022 but worth less than $40 last week, rebounded $1.85 to $42.39 on 859,000 shares today without benefit of news. Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) also did well, adding 17 cents to $3.35 on 493,000 shares.
Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) rose 10 cents to $4.23 on 195,000 shares. The company was back in the news with word of a new discovery at its Queensway project, just west of Gander in north-central Newfoundland. This latest batch of assays covered a whopping 97 new holes, so there was bound to be something to cheer -- and what the company chose to applaud was a 16.85-metre strike at Vegas that averaged 35.24 grams of gold per tonne.
