New York spot gold surged $38.90 to $2,082.30 on Friday and the TSX Venture Exchange tagged along with an 11.49-point rise to 571.60. The TSX gold index was less eager, but it added 7.75 points to 253.38. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) led Canadian gold miners northward today, as it added 98 cents to $9.25 on 164,000 shares. The company said late yesterday that it earned nearly $55-million (U.S.) last year, hitting its 2023 production guidance. SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) was all but alone in retreat today. It lost four cents to $5.78 on 1.66 million shares.
Grant Ewing's Blue Star Gold Corp. (BAU) closed unchanged at 34.5 cents on 1,000 shares. The thin trader cheers that it is "preparing for an active exploration campaign" at its Ulu and Roma projects in Nunavut. "Detailed planning is under way in advance of the 2024 exploration launch," the company says -- just in case you missed the lede. (Talk of planning does not move a stock, it appears.)
