New York spot gold rose $32.90 to $2,115.20 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 3.74 points to 575.34 while the TSX gold index added 10.73 points to 264.11. Canada's main gold miners did well today -- well, except for SSR Mining Inc. (NG), which lost 10 cents to $5.68 on 1.57 million shares without any prodding from news. Among those northbound today was Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX), which added 42 cents to $5.86 on 588,000 shares, and McEwen Mining Inc. (IMG), which rose $1.33 to $10.61 on 163,000 shares.
At the other end of the spectrum, Chris Anderson's Great Atlantic Resources Corp. (GR) rose one-half cent to 3.5 cents on 135,000 shares on word it is planning a bulk sample of its Jaclyn Main deposit in central Newfoundland. The company says it will do so in partnership with Dustin Angelo's Novamera Inc., a private company touting "surgical mining technologies." Novamera, is seems, is making its technology available, but the details of the arrangement are unknown.
