New York spot gold rose $15.30 to $2,128.80 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 7.06 points to 568.28 while the TSX gold index added 2.65 points to 266.76. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) was a busy trader but one in the red as it fell 20 cents to $7.07 on 21.1 million shares despite a three-week silence. Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV) did well, adding 89 cents to $25.34 on 2.08 million shares.
Michael Hudson's Mawson Gold Ltd. (MAW) surged 9.5 cents to 47.5 cents on 4.01 million shares coming off a daylong halt called so it could applaud a bonanza-grade hit by its Australian subsidiary, Southern Cross Gold Ltd., at the Sunday Creek project in Victoria, Australia. The eye-popper was a one-metre stretch that graded 2,318 grams of gold per tonne, but the full story is that the hit was one of 12 high-grade vein sets occurring across a 455.3-metre interval that averaged 7.2 grams of gold per tonne.
