New York spot gold rebounded $14.50 to $2,172.10 on Wednesday, while the TSX Venture Exchange added 1.51 points to 555.08. The TSX gold index followed bullion higher, adding 5.29 points to 277.59. Several Canadian gold miners managed solid gains, led by Ero Copper Corp. (ERO), which jumped $1.59 to $24.59 on 1.23 million shares. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) also did well, rising 73 cents to $11.90 on 84,000 shares. Osisko Gold Royalties Ltd. (OR) sputtered today, but it did gain 15 cents to $21.81 on 650,000 shares.
Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) rose 27 cents to $5.06 on 699,000 shares on word of new Iceberg hits. Assays from another 61 holes produced several noteworthy results, including a 16.7-metre interval that graded 36.2 grams of gold per tonne. A deeper but still near-surface zone in that hole produced 15.5 grams per tonne over 13.15 metres, while a second hole mustered 33.68 grams per tonne over 14.7 metres.
