New York spot gold surged anew today, adding $31.70 to $2,322.40. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 5.45 points to 584.33 while the TSX gold index jumped 10.56 points to 310.69. There were several gold miners with strong gains, including West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG), which added nine cents to 79 cents on 3.82 million shares. Not everyone had out the hats and horns today: Elevation Gold Mining Corp. (ELVT) fell 4.5 cents to 7.5 cents on 1.55 million shares on word that it had a tough quarter and is struggling financially as a result.
Marco Roque's Cassiar Gold Corp. (GLDC) lost one cent to 32 cents on 571,000 shares. The company said Tuesday that it was seeking $2-million for "continuing and future exploration and drill programs" on its Cassiar gold project in Northern British Columbia. Late yesterday, it upped the target to $5-million. Cassiar is offering regular shares at 25 cents and flow-through shares at 35 cents -- pricing that was in line with the market just two weeks ago. The placement is expected to close in mid-April, says Mr. Roque, president and chief executive officer.
