New York spot gold rose $41.10 to $2,374.40 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 3.98 points to 591.28 while the TSX gold index rose 4.77 points to 315.26. GoGold Resources Inc. (GGD), which rose seven cents to $1.54 on 1.51 million shares yesterday following midday word that the company had produced 375,000 ounces of gold equivalent during its first quarter, lost three cents today, closing at $1.51 on 738,000 shares. Meridian Mining UK Societas (MNO), on the other hand, rose 3.5 cents to 44.5 cents on 1.04 million shares. The company closed a $20.1-million upsized placement earlier this week, selling 57.4 million shares at 35 cents.

Jonathon Deluce's Abitibi Metals Corp. (AMQ) jumped seven cents to 68 cents on 1.83 million shares on word it has begun drilling at its Beschefer gold project in northwestern Quebec. Beschefer is seven kilometres east of its B26 deposit, where drilling is also under way. More promotably, it is 30 kilometres southwest of the 4.1-million-ounce Fenelon project, being worked by Wallbridge Mining Co. Ltd. (WM: $0.09). Abitibi Metals is earning a 100-per-cent interest in Beschefer from Wallbridge. It has spent $2-million so far and it expects to hit the required $3-million in expenditures by early 2025 as required.
