New York spot gold fell $9.70 to $2,372.50 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 0.73 point to 571.84, while the TSX gold index added 4.02 points to 311.09. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM) was strong, as it added $1.69 to $72.52 on 1.49 million shares. So was Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX), which gained 18 cents to $6.87 on 1.08 million shares. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) on the other hand was southbound. It lost 20 cents to $15.03 on 212,000 shares.
Kevin Bullock's Signal Gold Inc. (SGNL) rose one-half cent to 11.5 cents on 417,000 shares. The company will "initiate further exploration drilling" on the western extension of the Goldboro deposit in Nova Scotia -- a follow-up effort spanning 5,000 metres of drilling that will pursue the company's discovery last year of near-surface high-grade gold immediately west of the Goldboro deposit. Initial modelling, the company cheers, suggests the potential to delineate open-pittable resources, as well as offering the possibility of further discoveries.
