New York spot gold fell $1.30 to $2,336.10 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 3.51 points to 590.06, while the TSX gold index added 1.33 points to 322.02. Galiano Gold Inc. (GAU) added 10 cents to $2.25 on 999,000 shares despite a two-week silence. Newmont Corp. (NGT) on the other hand fell 61 cents to $57.77 on 501,000 shares.
Ian Cockerill's Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV) rose 72 cents to $29.85 on 720,000 shares on word it has held its first gold pour at the Sabodala-Massawa Biox expansion in Senegal. Mr. Cockerill, chief executive officer, was "proud" to have commissioned the project and delivered first gold in only two years at what is the company's fourth capital project completed in the past decade.
All of these, Mr. Cockerill beams, were completed in two years or less and were "delivered on schedule, on budget and with no lost-time injuries." And so, Mr. Cockerill cheers, look for Endeavour to ramp up production at Sabodala-Massawa Biox to nameplate capacity this summer, "driving stronger production at lower all-in sustaining costs through the year."
