New York spot gold jumped $39.90 to $2,415.40 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange leapt 11.90 points to 615.17 while the TSX gold index gained 8.41 points to 335.33. Most precious metals miners listed in Canada gained altitude today, several with vigour. Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) jumped 48 cents to $5.25 on 2.73 million shares and it had plenty of company. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) gained 72 cents to $15.16 on 166,000 shares while Taseko Mines Ltd. (TKO) added 30 cents to $4 on 4.28 million shares.
Chad Williams and Dusty Nicol's Honey Badger Silver Inc. (TUF) jumped two cents to nine cents on 439,000 shares. The thin-trading stock was unchanged yesterday, but on 4.68 million shares, its highest volume ever. Most of the action came in two six-cent trades late in the morning -- a 2.8-million-share trade followed 15 minutes later by a 1.63-million-share transaction -- in which a TD Securities client was the buyer and a PI Financial Corp. customer the seller.
