New York spot gold fell $4.60 to $2,421.30 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 5.35 points to 620.52 while the TSX gold index gained 3.50 points to 338.83. Most precious metals miners listed in Canada were strong today. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) added six cents to 47 cents on 1.66 million shares while McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) jumped 53 cents to $15.69 on 115,000 shares. The rising tide did not reach Silvercrest Metals Inc. (SIL), as it lost 20 cents to $12.48 on 790,000 shares.
Marshall Koval's Lumina Gold Corp. (LUM) rose one cent to 59 cents on 243,000 shares on word its feasibility study of the Cangrejos gold and copper project in Ecuador is on schedule and being completed to plan. That plan calls for a 40,000-tonne-per-day initial processing rate, up from the 30,000-tonne-per-day proposal in last year's prefeasibility study. The move, cheers Mr. Koval, president and chief executive officer, simplifies construction and future expansions -- and of course would boost early revenue. The study will have mining begin at the higher-grade Cangrejos deposit then move to the Gran Bestia deposit later.
