New York spot gold fell $24.20 on Tuesday, closing at $2,326.30. The TSX Venture Exchange slid 10.49 points to 595.43 while the TSX gold index slumped 12.22 points to 313.90. Canada's golds and silvers were therefore a sea of red today. SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) lost 62 cents to $6.43 on 947,000 shares while McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) fell $1.16 to $15.22 on 60,000 shares.

Darren Hall's Calibre Mining Corp. (CXB) took a hit early and ended the day down eight cents to $1.93 on 8.67 million shares. The move comes on word of a "geotechnical incident" at its Limon Norte open-pit mine in Nicaragua. The jargon masks the danger, although in assuring investors that nobody was hurt and no equipment was damaged, the company conceded the incident involved "pit wall movement." And so, what was apparently a rock slide in the western wall of the pit will "negatively impact" gold production in the second quarter.
