New York spot gold rose $11.30 Tuesday, closing at $2,329.60. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 2.70 points to 575.63 while the TSX gold index added 3.67 points to 312.10. Most Canadian gold miners gained ground today, although with incremental gains more like Russia's latest Kharkiv offensive than, say, a blitzkrieg attack of the Second World War. Oh, there were a few more energetic advances, as Capstone Copper Corp. (CS) added 50 cents to $9.33 on 4.64 million shares and Iamgold Corp. (IMG) rose 21 cents to $5.15 on 4.94 million shares -- but the nine-cent rise to $9.31 on 1.27 million shares by Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) was more typical.
Taj Singh's First Nordic Metals Corp. (FNM) jumped 3.5 cents to 35.5 cents on 1.55 million shares on word it has identified a new gold anomaly at its Paubacken project in northern Sweden. The company's glacial till geochemical survey has revealed the Brokojan target, an orogenic system pathfinder anomaly about 2,300 metres long and 1,000 metres wide. It, along with the adjacent Harpsund target, is part of a large, semi-continuous anomaly with a 5,500-metre strike running southeast to northwest.
