New York spot gold rose $12.90 Monday, closing at $2,332.90. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 6.90 points to 563.81 while the TSX gold index added 1.28 points to 316.88. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today. Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) rose 11 cents to $4.76 on 491,000 shares while SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) gained seven cents to $6.29 on 322,000 shares. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) went the other way, dropping 42 cents to $12.96 on 51,000 shares.
Dan Gagnon's Gowest Gold Ltd. (GWA) is going private. The company has agreed to a transaction in which its major shareholders will buy out smaller investors at 15 cents per share. The offer, which has been made by a group that includes Lush Land Investment Canada Inc., Greenwater Investment Hong Kong Ltd., 1000216244 Ontario Inc., Debao Wang, Yun Zhao, Fortune Future Holdings Ltd. and Meirong Yuan, along with Fraser Elliott and one of his private companies, sent Gowest's stock up five cents to 12 cents on 10.24 million shares today.
