New York spot gold rose $27.60 Thursday, closing at $2,325.40. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 4.97 points to 570.55 while the TSX gold index added 3.32 points to 319.19. Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX), which crashed $6.07 to $1.36 on 15.2 million shares Tuesday and lost another eight cents yesterday, continued its southward trek, falling another 10 cents to $1.18 on 6.95 million shares today. The market collapse follows an internal rock collapse in the leach pad of its Eagle mine in Yukon. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) was strong, as it added 59 cents to $11.38 on 7.45 million shares without benefit of news.
Walter Berukoff's Lion One Metals Ltd. (LIO) lost three cents to 46 cents on 766,000 shares. Lion roared to an intraday high of 51 cents Wednesday, ending the day up three cents to 49 cents on 695,000 shares. The move followed word the company has recovered 1,370 ounces of gold so far this month from its Tuvatu underground operation in Fiji. Production has edged higher since commissioning wrapped up at the start of the year and the company is predicting 1,700 ounces for the full month.
