New York spot gold rose $6.70 Wednesday, closing at $2,370.70. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 7.69 points to 583.26 while the TSX gold index jumped 9.25 points to 343.30. Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) helped lead the advance as it added $1.50 to $30.84 on 1.16 million shares. Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDV), weak yesterday, was strong today. It added 89 cents to $6.30 on 2.99 million shares, wiping out Tuesday's 20-cent drop. An Endeavour share cost just $4.73 last week.
Workers returned today to Geoff Hampson's Soma Gold Corp. (SOMA) following a resolution of "issues pertaining to the paving of a local road" that triggered a brief blockade at the company's El Bagre mine in Colombia. The blockade and temporary suspension of operations began a few days ago, when the locals became impatient with delays in road maintenance. (At issue, apparently, was the matter of paving about 3.5 kilometres of regional road.)
