New York spot gold rose $42.50 Thursday, closing at $2,413.20. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 3.29 points to 586.55 while the TSX gold index gained 8.80 points to 352.10. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today, but several did not. Among the laggards were Capstone Copper Corp. (CS), which fell 41 cents to $9.95 on 3.62 million shares, and Ero Copper Corp. (ERO), which dropped $1.12 to $29.95 on 556,000 shares. On the other hand, Perseus Mining Ltd. (PRU) gained 16 cents to $2.48 on 91,000 shares, while Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) added 49 cents to $5.54 on 475,000 shares.

And now for the news: Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) was back in the spotlight with its first assays in months, although its stock shrugged it off, adding just 10 cents to $4.25 on 966,000 shares. The company has the results from the first 11 holes of a deep drilling program that began in March, testing targets on its Queensway property, just west of Gander in north-central Newfoundland.
