New York spot gold fell $3.90 Friday, closing at $2,410.60. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 7.15 points to 593.70 while the TSX gold index gained 2.04 points to 353.81. Canadian gold miners were a mixed lot in the market. Yesterday's laggards were strong today, with Capstone Copper Corp. (CS) rebounding 51 cents to $10.46 on 3.35 million shares and Ero Copper Corp. (ERO) gaining $1.23 to $31.18 on 588,000 shares. Those in decline today included Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO), which fell 20 cents to $13.31 on 847,000 shares.
John McConnell's beleaguered Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX) rallied late yesterday, tacking on 13 cents to end the day at 82 cents on 3.91 million shares. The rally continued today, with the stock getting to an intraday high of 96 cents before ending the day up four cents to 86 cents on 4.89 million shares. (Of course, Victoria is far below the $7 it was trading at in June, before the leach pad failure at its Eagle mine in Yukon forced the mine to suspend production.)
