New York spot gold rose $46.50 Tuesday, closing at $2,468.10. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 4.59 points to 599.14 while the TSX gold index added 11.8 points to 364.67. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today, although Lundin Mining Corp. (LUN) was a laggard with a 25-cent decline to $15.47 on 2.4 million shares. Among those gaining altitude was SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM), which rose 37 cents to $7.56 on 511,000 shares, and Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM), which added $3.61 to $84.96 on 1.16 million shares.
David Lotan and Matti Talikka's Aurion Resources Ltd. (AU) fell two cents to 57 cents on 376,000 shares on word it has arranged the sale of 9.09 million shares at 55 cents, seeking $5-million in new cash -- $6-million if the agents exercise their greenshoe option. The money, cheers Mr. Talikka, chief executive officer, is for further work at Aurion's Risti property in northern Finland, as well as for working capital and other general corporate purposes -- pretty much anything, in other words.
