New York spot gold fell $16.90 Thursday, closing at $2,440.90. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 9.32 points to 578.85 while the TSX gold index retreated 4.76 points to 354.78. Most Canadian gold miners retreated today but give a nod to Altius Minerals Corp. (ALS), as it added 29 cents to $21.60 on 117,000 shares. Lundin Mines Corp. (LUN) helped lead the retreat, dropping 92 cents to $14.09 on 3.95 million shares. New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) was another wayward soul, as it fell 26 cents to $4.13 on 1.35 million shares without a newsworthy reason.
Hudbay Minerals Inc. (HBM) slid 90 cents to $11.04 on 5.15 million shares. The company did have news -- if setting Aug. 13 as the date for revealing its second quarter results can be considered news. This is just the latest drop this week, as Hudbay closed Friday at $12.81, while two weeks ago an investor paid $13.35 for shares.
