New York spot gold fell $2.60 Monday, closing at $2,398.20. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 1.96 points to 582.05 while the TSX gold index added 1.10 points to 352.27. Avino Silver & Gold Mines Ltd. (ASM) was strong today as it added eight cents to $1.42 on 321,000 shares. Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) also gained ground, adding 16 cents to $9.20 on 1.37 million shares. On the other hand, beleaguered Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX) plumbed new depths today, hitting a new 57-cent low before ending the day unchanged at 68 cents on 6.12 million shares.
Dave Webb's Sixty North Gold Mining Ltd. (SXTY) came off a brief halt with enthusiasm this morning after it revealed that it had intersected two gold-bearing quartz veins during development at its Mon gold mine, 40 kilometres north of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. One of the two encounters occurred within the A-Zone vein, which was the target of the development. The other occurred at the DD-Zone, about 10 metres west of the A-Zone vein.
