New York spot gold rose $10.10 Tuesday, closing at $2,406.70. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 1.39 points to 583.44 while the TSX gold index added 1.87 points to 354.14. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today. Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG) rose 17 cents to $11.41 on 322,000 shares and Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV) added 97 cents to $171.90 on 184,000 shares. Triple Flag Precious Metals Corp. (TFPM) was a laggard, dropping 39 cents to $21.42 on 322,000 shares on word that Sheldon Vanderkooy will succeed Shaun Usmar in the corner office later this year. (Mr. Usmar has just been appointed as CEO of Vale Base Metals.)
Investors continue to show disgruntlement with the pace set by Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) at its Queensway project in north-central Newfoundland. New Found fell 10 cents to $3.81 on 771,000 shares today, nearing its multiyear low set earlier this month. The market grumpiness has nothing to do with the pace of drilling -- New Found is nearing its 650,000-metre mark after all -- but investors have been longing for a maiden resource estimate for at least two years now.
